AMD Gaming Laptop Radeon GPU Deal
Whether it is due to the low supply of AMD chips or the unwillingness of OEM partners to build machines around AMD GPUs, “All-AMD” gaming laptops are few and far between. Among the few options that are available on the market, the Asus TUF Gaming A16, or simply the TUF A16, is one of the best. The laptop offers a compelling combination of performance and everyday usability thanks to factors like long battery life.
In other words, the Asus TUF A16 is a decent option for users who want a single laptop for both work and play. Making the laptop even better, Best Buy has now slashed the TUF A16 price by $400. The notebook can now be yours for just $699.99 (linked at the end).
To put this latest price into perspective, Best Buy offered the same machine for $720 back in December 2024.
Asus TUF Gaming A16: FHD-gamer with a 165 Hz panel and long endurance
The Asus TUF A16 gaming laptop on sale packs a Ryzen 7 7735HS CPU with 8x Zen 3 cores, a 4.75 GHz boost clock, and a Radeon 680M iGPU. Aiding the CPU is a Radeon RX 7700S GPU with a 120 W power budget, along with 16 GB of DDR5-4800 memory and 512 GB of storage. Both the RAM and storage are expandable to 32 GB and 4 TB, respectively, thanks to two SO-DIMM and M.2 slots each.
Moving to the front, the laptop features a 16-inch 1,920x1,200 resolution IPS panel with a quick 165 Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium, and a MUX switch. The display also covers 100% sRGB while delivering 300 nits of brightness.
Thankfully, the Asus TUF Gaming A16 does reach these figures, as our test unitclocked almost 300 nits of average brightness and 97% sRGB coverage. We also measured a good contrast ratio, quick response times, and solid factory calibration. Coupled with a 165 Hz refresh rate, the Asus TUF A16 has a display that is capable enough for both gaming and media consumption.
Moreover, the gaming performance afforded by the Ryzen 7 7735HS and the Radeon RX 7700S will take full advantage of the display. For instance, the Radeon RX 7700S delivered RTX 4060-like performance in our Framework Laptop 16 review, playing games like Cyberpunk 2077 2.2 Phantom Liberty at 68 FPS at 1080p/high without any image upscaling.
Unfortunately, this performance comes at the cost of high fan noise and elevated temperatures under load. So, if you want the quietest/coolest laptop, look elsewhere.
However, folks who are fine with increased emissions will be rewarded with outstanding battery life. The Asus TUF A16 lasted for more than 12 hours in our WLAN test.
